Walk For The Cure

Saturday a lot of kids will be trick or treating but when you are a Juvenile Diabetic that day is a real challenge to you.
My granddaughter Kaci was diagnosed in July with Juvenile Diabetes and as I wrote in a earlier post my heart was broken upon finding this out. She is only seven and so sweet but very brave and is doing her best to take positive actions in raising money for this cause. Her first benefit is this Saturday in Austin, Texas where she and I will be walking together for the cure. I am looking forward to the walk and of course being with her and my grandson Bailey.
They worked hard on this poster last night to enter in the contest Saturday. I think it is a great poster and I hope they win. So keep your fingers crossed.
It is not too late to make a donation for Kaci's team. Just go to http://walk.jdrf.org/support.cfm?id=87417440
All donations to Juvenile Diabetes will help find a cure for this dreadful disease.
Thank you for your help and support.

WE ALL DESERVE ROSES IN OUR LIFE

BREAST CANCER HAS MORE THAN LIKELY TOUCHED SOMEONE YOU KNOW AND LOVE. AS I MENTIONED IN A EARLIER POST I AM A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR BUT TODAY BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES OF THE TIME I WAS FIGHTING THE DISEASE. I HAD A FUNNY LOOKING MOLE REMOVED FROM NEAR THE SPOT WHERE THEY FOUND MY BREAST CANCER. AS I LAY THERE ON THE OPERATING TABLE I THOUGHT OF ALL THE WOMEN AND MEN THAT WERE GOING THROUGH BREAST CANCER AND SILENTLY PRAYED FOR THEM AND THAT MINE HAD NOT COME BACK.
IF IT HAS I PRAY THAT I FIGHT IT WITH JUST AS MUCH COURAGE AND DETERMINATION I DID THE FIRST TIME YEARS AGO.
IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE GOING THROUGH THIS DREADED DISEASE NOW GIVE THEM SOME PINK ROSES TO LET THEM KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE AND THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY. THEY WILL REMEMBER THE KINDNESS YEARS FROM NOW.

ONE OF THOSE DAYS

Anyone want to join me in having a ONE OF THOSE DAYS on their blog. You see all these other blogs having Metamorphosis Mondays and Mosaic Mondays we could start one called ONE OF THOSE DAYS.
When I work at the sheriffs department I get up at 3:20 am in order to be at the shift meeting by 4:45. My routine is pretty much like anyone else in the mornings but today was ONE OF THOSE DAYS that I won't soon forget. While brushing my teeth my lights go out in the bathroom. I start unplugging things thinking I have blown a breaker. Nope lights were out all over this old house. So I stumble back to the bedroom find my big flashlight for emergency such as this and start over on my daily routine in the bathroom. Well dang if the flash light does not go out less than five minutes later. I can not put in words how dark it was. So once again I am stumbling through the house looking for a candle and matches. I finish dressing by candlelight but did not put on lipstick or eye make-up because too afraid of looking like a clown doing it by candlelight. I go outside to my car and just as dark out there but thank God my inside lights came on when I got inside. Well I turn the key and the car does not start. I wanted to bang my head on the steering wheel but was too afraid of the pain that would cause. I then call in too work to explain my situation and they suggest I sit out there for a little while and try it again. Took their advice but still no luck. I then stumble back on to the porch where my dog, Dotty Forrest is waiting on me and low and behold if I did not fall over her face first on the hard wooden porch and I bit my tongue. My keys flew out in the yard and it took me twenty minutes to find them. Would you believe they landed in a pot full of geraniums. I finally get back into the house and call the sheriffs office again and then I lay down waiting on day light so I can wake up my brother to see if he can come over and jump start the vehicle. While I was laying there my poor cat Tinkerbell started throwing up all over the bedroom floor. Needless to say it was ONE OF THOSE DAYS. Seventy-five dollars later I have a new battery and I pray in the morning goes so much smoother than this one. OK your turn. Write about One of Those Days on your blog and let me know so I can laugh along with you.

I AM A SURVIVOR

PLEASE GET YOUR CHECK UPS FOR BREAST CANCER. IF YOU GET A CHANCE CHECK OUT THIS SITE http://pinkribbongirls.org

As most of us know it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thanks to God I am one of the lucky ones and survived my Breast Cancer. I can remember it so well when the doctors and nurses surrounded my husband and myself and gave us the news. It was like someone had pierced me with something sharp in my chest. They started explaining what their plans for me and I sat there looking at them but not sure how much of it I retained. The word Cancer just kept going through my brain and finally we left there and I remember that my husband stopped at a Wolfs Nursery on the way home because that had been our plans before the news but all I could think of was I had cancer.

After the shock wore off I went to our small public library and checked out every book that they had on the subject. I had made up my mind that when I met with the cancer doctors on that Monday that I would know the questions I needed answers too. Doing my research was by far one of the smartest things I have to give myself credit for. It surprised my doctor and the surgeons that in two days I had did some work on finding out what I could about Breast Cancer. So ladies and men if it ever happens to you please do your homework because if I had not did it they would have taken my left breast. Everything I read and all the questions I ask them were answered the same way. My chances were the same with having my breast removed as to keeping it. So I made the decision to keep it and have treatments. I did have surgery but that was to remove all my lymph nodes under my left arm and they took out a small area in my breast where the knot was but it healed without any complications.

To say I was blessed over fifteen years ago is an understatement. Yes I was scared for years afterwards and sure I still think about the possibility of it coming back but I thank God all the time for my second chance. I got to see all my children graduate and go to college and now I have grandchildren. So I am one of the lucky ones.

I do have a funny looking red spot near my breast same side and my doctor told me last year it was a mole. I believed him and thought little of it but in the last few months it has changed and it itches some time. So now on the 21st he is removing it and once again I guess I will be waiting for the results but hopefully it will be just a benign mole. So once again on my blog I am asking for yours prayers but this time for me.

One day this month I will write in memory of one of my dear friends and my daddy who also survived breast cancer but years later they died of other types of cancer. I miss my daddy and Barbara very much and can still see both of them laughing and smiling all of the time. What a sweetheart she was to me and everyone that knew her and my daddy was one of the best dads anyone could ask for. Worked hard all his life for his family. Never a selfish bone in his body.

It is rare for men to have breast cancer but they can and do get it. My dad got it when he was 45 and that is the same age that they found mine. Doctors say it comes from your mothers side but I am not so sure that this is true but whose to say. I do know men should check their selfs as well as women. I need to remind my sons to check for knots just like I preach to my daughter.

Just remember get your check ups and remind your friends and family to do the same.

I received the nicest email from Beth at www.OurSoldiers.com and she included this logo from their website. Be sure and click the logo and visit their site and while your there order a T-Shirt for one of our soldiers or yourself. Remember the proceeds go to war veterans and your not only helping that cause but your giving a much deserved gift to a soldier. The shirts are not expensive and you can either order one of their designs or design one yourself. They even send the shirts for you so how easy to make a soldiers day. Also Christmas is just around the corner and these shirts will be great to send to our troops. I plan on sending several out before the holidays so lets all get involved in helping our men and women that are giving their lives everyday to save us.
Also please remember the troops in your prayers every night. I know they would really appreciate it.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you send a shirt. And remember if you want to list a soldier on my site that wants mail and gifts be sure and contact me.

WEBSITES HELPING OUR TROOPS

What would we do without the help of the internet? One blogger was kind enough to send me a website where you can get names and addresses of soldiers. Go to http://anysoldiers.com/ it has emails you can read from our soldiers explaining what their needs are overseas. Another site that I found http://OurSoldiers.org/ lets you design a T-shirt proceeds go to USA cares for war veterans . My granddaughter Kaci loves to draw I think I will ask her to design my shirt for me. Their goal is to raise a million dollars. Let's help them do it. Take time to visit these sites I promise you will enjoy them as much as I did. So everyone get involved helping these soldiers who are keeping us safe. It will make you feel so good knowing your making a difference in their lives. They so deserve our help.
