The Beat Goes On!

The Beat Goes On!

I was in Starbuck`s recently when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to fart. The music was really loud so I timed my fart with the beat of the music. After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my coffee and noticed that everyone was staring at me. And, suddenly, I remembered I was listening to my iPod.

So, how is your day going?

That's what happens when old people start using technology!

My dear friend Patti over at The New Sixty has decided to give up blogging.  I have been sad since reading her last post. I do hope she reconsiders and writes again but if not I completely understand. Patti you will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have gotten to know you and especially this ole grandma.

It seems quite a few of us bloggers have been considering taking a break or quitting all together. I too have wondered if I should do the same.

It would be too hard to write a last post and not hear from you again. So for now my plans are to keep going and hope that the muse in charge of creative juices will decide to pay me a visit more than she has lately.

The last two days I have been working on the room upstairs. Still trying to paper it and paint it. I think I have set a record for the longest time redoing a room. lol

You of course will be the first one I show the results to if and when I do the Happy Dance of completing the task.

Hope you are having a marvelous weekend and the weather is not too blistering hot. It is cloudy here and we actually have a sixty percent chance of rain tomorrow. If the rains come I may just do the happy dance early.

Love to all,
Maggie

Hope Springs!

My hope for you this weekend is to take the time to go see this movie. I took my dear sister-in-law Linda for her Birthday and we both laughed so hard. It was extremely hilarious watching Meryl and Tommy Lee together. They were the prefect two for this movie.

I knew from the trailers of this move that it would be good but I have to say it was better than my high expectations. One scene while they were on a movie date I almost spewed my Dr. Pepper all over the couple in front of me. Thank goodness that did not happen but when I think how close I came to having done this really makes me laugh again at how crazy this movie turned out to be.

Towards the end I was surprised my self when I was wiping a few tears from my eyes. Sometimes there are moments like there were in this movie that make me realize how much I miss being married.

The movie is not just funny but deals with problems of some married couple face while growing old together.
So it has it's serious moments too. I loved it so much I could sit through it again.

Today is my son's Clint's wedding anniversary. I wish I were there to babysit for him and his sweet wife Andrea where they could go out this evening. God Blessed me when these two married. They are the prefect parents for my two precious grand babies. Happy Anniversary you two!

Wish you could of been with me this week I sure could of used your help. I have been spending a lot of hours tossing things out of my closet. When you have one closet in your home it makes it hard to not throw out things. I just closed my eyes and cleaned. lol

Another thing that has taken up a lot of my time is trying to get a carpenter and plumber out here to fix the damage done from the old roof. I have talked to several but none have showed up. There is not a shortage of work for carpenters in our area. I told my brother today I have been thinking of doing it myself and you should of seen the look on his face. lol Priceless.

The highlight of my week was talking to Cathy from Acorn Hallow  for the first time last night. She was a sweetheart for calling me and telling me about her home state Maine. It was a joy hearing her voice and laughing with her.
If you have not met Cathy be sure and go by and meet this lovely lady.

Well I hope you are having a fantastic week and enjoying the last of the summer. It has been in the 100's here all week so I find myself waking up during the night from leg cramps. I guess I am not drinking enough water or Gatorade.

Be gentle to yourself and remember this ole Grandma Yellow Hair thinks of you often. As always I appreciate you coming by and saying hello.

Love to all
Maggie

We Had A Toe Sucking Good Time!

The four of us behind a sculpture down town Marble Falls.

What a weekend! I have to say it was the best time visiting with my girlfriends I grew up with in La Porte.
They called me last week and wanted to know if I were up to running away with them to Ruby's house in the hill country near Austin and I could not say Yes fast enough. I think before I hung up the phone with Ruby that night I was throwing clothes in the suitcase.

We try to have girly weekends whenever it is possible with the four of us. Ruby has a gorgeous weekend home that we all love to visit.
Here we are posing for our group picture. Their brother Oscar came along with us so we had him take our picture. Having him along only increases the fun we all have being together. He can come up with some hilarious ideas and of course we just  follow along like we were kids again.

Bonnie is standing in the back with me. Yes I am short so you don't need to adjust your computer.
In front Linda Mae is on the left (she is also my sister-in-law) and Ruby on the right.
I have known these three sisters and brothers for sixty years!

Now I take the picture so we can get Oscar in the picture. I will have to send this to them because what a great family photo.

On these weekend get a ways we laugh, visit, play cards, eat, and laugh some more. There seems to be nothing that we don't talk about.

Friday night we went to the famous Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls. Can not tell you how excited I was when they mentioned we were going there. It is the small cafe that my kids took me to for my Birthday celebration. The food is good but their pies are what makes the cafe famous.

Hope my daughter isn't reading this because I am suppose to be on a diet with her. lol We were all going to order pie for dessert but then we were so full we decided we would just take one back to the house. Well then it was which pie do we choose. Votes were counted and the coconut creme pie won.

While the waitress was boxing that up I told them how good the chocolate fudge pie was so the five of us decide we will order a piece and share it. Well that was just one bite between us all and before I knew we were ordering a slice of German Chocolate pie too. Meanwhile we are laughing so hard because the waitress is not believing the group she is waiting on. There is so much laughing at our table that she decides to just get in on the fun. I love it when you can have a night out with friends like this one.

Back at the house we talk and talk about everything. We played cards until about 1am. Oscar went to bed early and left us up to giggle like we were kids back in La Porte. At times when we are together like this it's almost like we are all sitting in one of our cars while teenagers talking about the boys in our lives.

The next day we hit the re-sale shops. It surprised me for such a small town how many re-sale shops we visited.  Look at this four poster gorgeous bed. After a month I believe it goes down to $250.00. Cheap and I love it but I think it is too big for my rooms. At least I am going to keep telling myself that

I was good and only bought a Pyrex bowl with lid. It was older and I had never seen one like it and I thought it was a great size for when I cook for the kids. The price was right too only two dollars.

Later at the house we were sitting in the yard and before I knew it Oscar was giving foot massages. Now how many brothers do you know will give their sisters a honest to goodness real foot massage. Lotion and all. lol He told me to slide my chair over and he would do mine but I figured after my poor tired feet were in tennis shoes sweating most of the day while walking I should not be so cruel to him. I sure was wanting to though it looked like it would of been so relaxing.

Then I told them I needed to get my camera and get some blog photo's of this but of course they talked me out of it. We are sitting around laughing and talking about my blog and I of course tell them how bad I have been with writing. I would give anything if I could remember what all we were laughing about and the title's they were coming up with for this post. One  suggestion was We Had a Toe Sucking Good Time. Now I know we get silly but where did that come from. hahaha  If you were a fly on the wall on weekends like this you would swear we were either drunk, high or both.

They double dog dared me to use that as my title and of course you know me. I could not loose a dare.

Well enough on my weekend. I just had to share a good time with you for a change. It seems all I have posted about here lately is all the things going on out here on the North Forty. Things are still hectic but my to do list is getting scratched off.

Boy August is here and it is HOT! I just thought it was hot in July but these past few days I feel like it is 115! I am so looking forward to fall.

The last few nights I have fallen a sleep trying to figure out where to stay and visit next month on mine and Christi's trip to Maine. I had my hopes up to be able to see Vermont too but from everything we have been told it would be hard to visit three states like I want to in five days. Flying in Saturday and flying home Friday doesn't leave a lot of time for everything I want to see.

Everyone keeps telling me 100 miles in Vermont is not like a 100 miles in Texas. So I guess I will just keep trying to figure it out. I did make reservations today for a beautiful place to stay in Portland the first night and then on Sunday we are going on a trolley tour of the city and then take a 90 minute water tour of some of the light houses. I am so excited! All my life I have wanted to see Maine and a month from today I will get to scratch this off my bucket list.

Well I am yawning and you have to be since this is a long post. I mainly wanted to check in and say hello.
Ruby if your reading this Thank You for a fun filled weekend. I am still laughing at some of our conversations. If only I could share them on here.

Stay cool everyone and remember I think of you often.

Sweet Dreams
Maggie

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere!

You are amazing! I have been so bad about writing yet you still believe in me and come over to encourage me to keep writing. Some days while working out here and not ever having a moment to blog I think maybe I should just give up my site but then I sign on to my humble little blog and you have stopped by and left me the sweetest comment.

How do I find the words to thank you for your kindness. All I can think of right now is God Bless You!

Right now I am waiting on the pest control guy again to show up and spray for those darn pesky scary bees.
If you remember the other week they chased me into the house and I called him. Then this week the roofers showed up and while putting  a new metal roof on the ole farm house they were attached by bees. Scared them and me to death. Thank goodness only one sting out of what could of been a horrible nightmare.

I have to say the new roof  looks so nice even though it is a different looking metal. I had loved the old roof but was tired of setting out buckets in two bedrooms so now this new roof will be just what I need especially with winter coming on before we know it. Will take pic's for you when their finished.

Let me tell you how Monday morning started for me. I heard trucks outside my door around 8am and I opened the door to look out. In front of my house was three trucks of roofers, another truck was here to clean out the septic tank and last but not least a plumber.

I knew they were coming some time this week but no one called and told me first thing Monday morning. Then two hours later my land lady shows up for the day to make sure the roofers do what she wants done.

About 10:30 that morning I am ready to climb up on the roof and jump off. I remembered that some friends of mine had left some of those packaged frozen margarita's in the freezer and I am ashamed to say I had one.
This is a woman that drinks a pina colada once every six months so for me to head for the freezer for a drink tells me I need a vacation, or a therapist or both. I kept thinking it had to be five o'clock somewhere.

Since my last post I have had three chimneys leveled, a new roof put on, commodes reset and a shower worked on. Septic tank emptied and I finished working on the pink house. The renters are moving in this evening. Also I had a carpenter come by and look at the ceilings that have been leaking for a long time now. I guess after the landlady stayed here she realized this house needs some attention. So I am making a list of what needs to be done. lol

Today while mowing a big limb fell and just missed me so I came straight into the house and called a tree guy. He came out and we counted more than 14 huge trees that have died out here since the drought last year. I sent her an email and told her his quote and hopefully she approves and Friday he will work on getting half of them down for now. I could not believe for 8 trees he is only charging nine hundred dollars. These trees are not small we are talking old big ones and big. I ask him was he sure he was bidding right. Surely she will see how cheap this is and give him the go ahead.

Let me tell you the most embarrassing story of what happened while the guys were here leveling the chimneys. The man that owns the company came into my living room and I was asking him if I should move things off the mantles to make sure they did not fall. He thought they would be okay but I did not want to take the chance so I start moving my odds and ends. Well I look over and he is doing the same thing at the other end of the room to that mantle. I thanked him for the help and he went back outside. I walked over to where he was removing things off the mantle and I almost stepped in cat poop. That darn Tinkerbell had left me a surprise on the rug in the living room. The man just must of stepped over it and thought What a dirty woman this nut is!

To say I was horrified is not quite the word I am trying to find. OMGosh can you imagine a stranger coming in your home and finding that on your floors. Of course I had to go out side and tell him how sorry  I was for
him having to be in a house with cat poop on the floor. What else could he say but that he understood since he had a cat.

I ended up taking Tinkerbell to the vet after this because she had more than this accident and by the way she was acting I was afraid she was sick. Turns out I hope all it was is the stress of all the workers here. She has
been under the bed for several weeks now only coming out to eat and of course pooping in the wrong place.
She needed to be caught up on her shots anyway so it was not a wasted trip. The way they went on about how much she weighs I thought I might be arrested for animal abuse.

Christi came and spent the weekend with me which made me over the moon happy. We both needed some catch up time and to plan our trip in September. Planning this trip has turned out to be overwhelming because we both want to see so much in a weeks time. I have dreamed of seeing Vermont and Maine all my life so now that I have the chance I can't figure out where to go and to stay. Once again I am begging for suggestions. We land in Portland on Saturday at 2pm and that is as far as we have our trip planned. lol
Seriously we are in trouble. I did rent a car too. The places I would love to stay in Portland are way out of the budget I want to stick with but may have to give in for a nicer room in Portland and get cheaper rooms while visiting Vermont.

We ended up shopping on one day while she was here and she bought the most gorgeous picture for her living room wall. It is so colorful and I would love to keep it myself. She drives a little sports car so we wrapped it up real good to store here until I make a trip to Austin with it. Why I did not capture a pic of it before we wrapped it is beyond me. I will though take one after we hang it at her place. She can't wait for me to bring it. lol

Well the bee guy came and left this evening and even with the twenty foot ladder he brought he still could not reach the very top of the chimney where he wanted to shoot the chemicals down. He sprayed around it again real good so in the morning I will see if there are any bee's before I call the roofers back on the job.

As you can see my life is still a whirl wind of confusion. I remember thinking today while mowing that I can't even mow in a orderly fashion. It seems I was here and there and everywhere. I beginning to think I have that attention disease. I start one project and before I know it I am doing another one.

Well I must go and do something. I forget now what.

Love to all
Maggie
